“New Horizons for Arts Education: The Student Support and Academic Enrichment program” Webinar
Earlier this year, Congress approved a $700 million increase to the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE), a block grant program, established in the Every Student Succeeds Act. This 175% increase means that schools and districts across the country can expect to receive significantly more funding to support activities that provide a well-rounded education, which includes the arts. Join Aileen Ma, senior associate, Penn Hill Group, and Alex Nock, principal, Penn Hill Group, as they help participants understand the
SSAE grant program and how funders can impact the arts via opportunities and strategies at the state and local level.
New Horizons for Arts Education: The Student Support and Academic Enrichment program” will be held Tuesday, August 14, at 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT. Details and registration available here. “Real and Not Real: The history of racialization in the United States” Webinar
Our nation has a long history of racism, discrimination, segregation, and cultural inequity. Since the 15th century, systems and structures were put in place which have perpetuated discriminatory practices. Now, in 2018, we see some of the same issues of discrimination rendering racialized outcomes—but why is this if so much time has passed? Ultimately, what does this have to do with arts philanthropy? Join Nayantara Sen, manager of Cultural Strategies and senior trainer, Race Forward, and Malcolm Shanks, Senior
Training and Content Development coordinator, Race Forward, as they provide a foundational introduction to the social construction of race in the United States. This webinar will discuss the creation and perpetuation of the racial hierarchy, ideologies of whiteness, and how institutional strategies for diversity, inclusion, and equity often get conflated or confused. We look forward to an evergreen presentation from Race Forward on how funders can address these issues.
“Real and Not Real: The history of racialization in the United States” will be held Tuesday, August 21, at 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT. Details and registration available here. From the GIA Blog
As we prepare for the 2018 Conference, we recall last year’s Detroit conference through Lara Davis’ blog post, in which she reflects on racial equity and arts philanthropy and the ongoing conversations towards institutional and structural change. During the 2017 GIA Conference, the Racial Equity in Arts Philanthropy workshops were piloted during a one-day preconference. This year,
GIA is rolling out racial equity workshops nationally, and we are excited to bring them to your communities. Learn more about the history of GIA’s racial equity work from our website.
