How We Are Showing Up to the GIA Conference
We are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2021 GIA Annual Conference coming this November, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Given the unprecedented times in which we are living and working, and the importance of prioritizing the health and safety of our hosts, our team, and our members conference participants, we have designed this year’s conference to be hybrid, allowing for in-person or virtual participation.

In concert with updates from our local partners in San Juan, all in-person participants – including GIA team, volunteers, hotel guests and staff, and conference attendees – will be required to be fully vaccinated to join any and all in-person track events.

For additional details about COVID-19 safety measures and protocols during the conference, visit the conference website.

The GIA board ballot will close on Monday, September 13, 2021 at midnight EDT.
Future of the Field: Introducing the Cross-Sector Creative Placemaking Series
GIA, in partnership with ArtPlace America, presents a living resource of dialogue, debate, and ideas on the future of arts and creative placemaking. Based on a decade of cross-sector research led by ArtPlace America, and in keeping with their knowledge-building approach, an interactive tool was developed to highlight 13 ways that arts and culture can support equitable community development. Continuing this work, GIA commissioned a series of response pieces from individuals and practitioners across the field of creative placemaking to be presented alongside ArtPlace’s analysis. Watch the Future of the Field space for weekly updates.
