Building a Larger Table

Cross-Sector Collaborations in the Arts

PRESENTATION SESSION

Wednesday, October 12, 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Organized by Leslie Ito, program officer, California Community Foundation; Emiko Ono, program officer, performing arts, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

Presented by Sarah Lyding, executive director, The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation; Bill Przylucki, lead organizer, People Organized for Westside Renewal (POWER).

The arts sector is increasingly engaged in cross-sector efforts that embed the value of the arts within other sectors and help tackle complex social issues. Varied examples include partnerships amongst federal agencies, a series of cross-sector conversations for arts and civic leaders designed by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and California Community Foundation, and The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation’s Imagination Conversation, which is part of a national series designed to promote imagination and creativity in the business. Participants will consider current examples of cross-sector collaborations, share the successes and challenges of their own cross-sector efforts, explore what is lost and gained in common causes, and gain fresh ideas for supporting the development of broad coalitions.
