In the last five years, our sector has seen an explosion of philanthropic initiatives designed to address issues of equity and racial justice. Portfolios have changed to become more diverse, but have we shifted our gaze and processes to meet our grantees where they are, decentralize our role as authoritarians, and grow the culture of reciprocal inquiry that is needed build towards a more just world. In this session we will learn from organizational leaders about the culturally specific models they have developed for their work and then discuss an evaluation framework that allows supports grantee agency while still holding our needs as funders in the process. Presenters will share the models through which they understand their work and their world. We will examine the evaluation structure of the Leveraging a Network for Equity (LANE) program developed in partnership with Management Assessment Group and cohort members which combines multiple ways of knowing, LANE’s Theory of Change, and movement building principles. Attendees will walk away with a vision of an evaluation centering the self-determination, dignity, and the brilliance of our grantees.
