Effective Advocacy: A Live Discussion on November 30
(11-24-10) The Chronicle of Philanthropy will host a live online discussion titled Effective Advocacy: Lessons for Charities and Grant Makers on Tuesday, November 30, noon EST/9am PST. Guest participants are Antha N. Williams, Atlantic Philanthropies; Dan Cramer, Grassroots Solutions; and Tom Novick, M+R Strategic Services.
From 2008 through 2009, Atlantic Philanthropies made three grants totaling $26.5-million to Health Care for America Now, or HCAN, a group of more than 1,000 liberal advocacy organizations and labor unions created to push for nationalized health care.
In doing so, Atlantic created what was considered one the largest advocacy grant-making efforts from an American foundation and was seen as a harbinger of future advocacy efforts by grant makers.
Now, with a recently completed evaluation report of its grant making on health-care advocacy, Atlantic Philanthropies is sharing results of an outside evaluation of the grants and is looking to share what it learned with other groups.
