South Carolina House and Senate over-ride Governor's axing the Arts Commission
(Since this article was published, the SC Senate also voted to override the governor.)
The voting board was mostly green Wednesday as members of the South Carolina House of Representatives overrode the majority of Gov. Nikki Haley’s vetoes.
On Tuesday, Haley vetoed 35 items out of the state’s budget. The vetoes accounted for more than $150 million of the $6 billion state budget.
On Wednesday, House members overrode a majority of those vetoes, including ones that would have eliminated $56 million in funds for K-12 education, eliminated funding South Carolina’s ETV educational television, eliminated $12.4 million for new school buses and eliminated funding for the South Carolina Arts Commission.
