For a follow-up to their 2002 Creative Community Index, Cultural Initiatives has assembled data from original surveys and outside data sources to create a broad understanding of Silicon Valley's 2005 cultural ecology. Analysis is derived from a random telephone survey of more than 1,000 individuals, as well as from artists, arts organizations, and civic and community leaders. The data and analysis is presented in an analytic framework that recognizes three inter-related elements of a healthy cultural ecology: cultural literacy, participatory cultural practice, and professional goods and services.
