Romney Campaign Focuses on Education Policy
Submitted by Steve on May 23, 2012
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney makes his first education specific speech of the campaign today (Wednesday, May 23) in Washington. He has named an education committee and has released an education policy document. As with most campaign documents, it is light on specifics but does give a picture of what Romney would prioritize should he win the presidency.
These two bullets likely signal that he’s backing away from NCLB’s requirements:
- Rather than federally-mandated school interventions, states would have incentives to create straightforward public report cards that evaluate each school on its contribution to student learning.
- When combining high standards, responsibility for results, and transparency with Governor Romney’s bold plan to increase parental choice, families will have more control over their children’s education and future.
