WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL: FANNIE MAE, FREDDIE MAC TO RESUME GIVING

The charitable arms of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, formerly the two top givers in the Washington region, got the OK at the close of 2008 to restart charitable giving.
The news breaks a three-month hiatus from most charitable activities while the companies were being reviewed by James Lockhart of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), federal conservator for the mortgage giants.
McLean-based Freddie Mac Foundation got word from the FHFA in December that it could restart its grant process, according to spokeswoman Shawn Flaherty. The foundation issued funds before the close of the year to nonprofits that had first been promised funding in September, the previous grant cycle. Read More.
