Building Wealth and Reparations for Artists Preconference

Toya Beacham on the Building Wealth and Reparations for Artists Preconference

On November 5, 2021, we kicked off the 2021 GIA Conference with four preconference's, or day-long workshops. At the individual artist preconference Building Wealth and Reparations for Artists, we discussed reparations, the funder response to debts that are owed to artists, and how to leverage this power to be a mover and shaker in the field of philanthropy. Attendees explored the various ways of advocating for artists in reconciliation from systemic harm. The preconference was a culmination of artists, art administrators, funders, and justice advocates, all of which spoke to important themes within the topic of reparations. Artist and graphic recorder, Toya Beacham, developed this artistic piece to capture the essence of the day.
